I've a similar situation where my cabin VHF is capable of transmitting  
distress lat/long info but I've not figured an easy way to get the gps  
data from my helm chartplotter to it.
One solution is to buy a GPS receiver (without display) like the  
DeLorme Earthmate LT-20; cost about $99 US.  It has a USB connector on  
it's cable and is designed to be used with a computer running their  
'Street Atlas' mapping software.  You'd have to cut the connector off  
and connect the bare data and power wires, but that shouldn't be hard  
to figure out.  The downside is that being USB powered, I think it  
requires 5 VDC which isn't readily available on boats, although your  
Icom might provide it.  For reception, I'd stick the unit through one  
of the cabin side ports near the nav table.
