Rod - I believe that Lewmar actually recommends paraffin, which I think is

Chris,

The last time I scheduled maintenance on my winches I thought I had material

on board for cleaning them, but I didn't and ended up cleaning mine using 
liquid parafin that I had on board for my Weems and Plath lantern.  It 
worked great so I would think that mineral oil would work also.  Thanks.
