[C320-list] MK II Knocking

I have had a similar knocking. In my case I began to get knocking at higher
rpm's. I believe this occurs because the shaft is not centered in the stern
tube. Its too far up or down, or right or left. Then if it begins to
vibrate at all it hits the inside of the tube.

I just went through a very careful alignment. I started by making sure the
shaft was centered by moving it up down and sideways and moved the rear end
of the engine until the engine side coupling half was centered between the
highest/lowest and farthest right/left movement that the shaft could move.
Then I finished the alignment using the procedure on the website, making
adjustments to the front of the engine. The website procedure is very
tedious, but I think it is worth the effort.

By making these adjustments to the engine position the knocking disappeared
and there is noticeable less vibration.

I am one of the MKII owners who thought I had avoided the knocking problem.
Unfortunately, last weekend when I let the engine run at speeds I had
avoided where I do have a shaft vibration, I found that I also had the
knock. I am hoping that when I get around to aligning the engine the knock
goes away.

What has happened with the knocking that you were experiencing when under
way?

Our new 320 (#1158) came with a binder of literature from Ocean Marine. It
included the elec. toys. BTW, we love the boat. It sails beautifully.

They are the folks that install the pods for Catalina and they also provide
the Raymarine eqpt to Catalina on a 'exclusive' contract...

Again, not sure if this is Catalina-wide or if it's a given size and up...
