Good point, I assumed he used the screwdriver on the low current side vs the arch welder side.

Should be 4 terminals on the solenoid. 1 big red one from the battery, 1
small red/yellow one from the ignition switch, one big red one to the
starter and one little black/yellow one to ground.

If it starts when shorting the big terminal from the battery to the little
terminal from the switch, the solenoid is good and the problem is in the
ignition switch circuit. If it starts only when you short the two big leads
together, the solenoid is bad, but you haven't eliminated an ignition switch
circuit issue yet either.
