Bill,
Sounds impressive. Do you have the pivoting or rigid version?

In my opinion the best all around anchor is the Super Max. I’ve lived
aboard and cruised on a trawler for 2 years logging over 12,000 miles and
anchoring out 95 percent of the time. I started out the cruise with a 45
pound CQR with 150’ of chain and 250’ of 5/8 line as my primary. I also had
a big Danforth on the second roller. After dragging both of the anchors in
the sands of the Florida, mud of the Chesapeake, and the grass in Canada, I
talked to some other cruisers that swear by the Super Max anchors. The
first time backing down on the Max, the boat stopped immediately from moving
backward and the bow dipped down a foot. and was set with about 3 to 1
scope. I was startled and was wondering if I got snagged on a rock. I
decided to unsnag it and when I lifted the anchor it just had mud on it. I
reset it and it did that every time regardless of the bottom. The anchor
never dragged and one time it did not set the first time. I believe it was
on some submerged branches close to a river bank. The first thing that I
got for my 320 was a Max and it has a perfect score for setting first try
and never dragged. It is expensive and ugly but is the best sleeping pill.

We're planning our first trip to Catalina Island off LA in our 320. We have
a 22 lb danforth with 50 feet of chain and 250 of 3/8 inch nylon rode. We
also have an 11# aluminum Fortress anchor with 150' of nylon rode as a
secondary. We'd eventually like to explore the other channel islands and I'm
looking for some opinions on anchors and tips for cruising catalina from
anyone who has cruised in this area.> > ThanksCrosby Roper, VMD> Tethys Hull
