[C320-list] engine overheating

I checked the pump and replaced the o-ring just to be safe.  It is a 3GM30 European model using the Johnson water pump.  The pump seemed to be OK.  I guess if there was enough back pressure because of a blockage somewhere downline, the water could spray out from one of the hose connections of the pump seal.
   
  I figure I will check the vented loop for a blockage, check the exhaust elbow for a blockage, and then check the heat exchanger for the same.  I suppose cleaning out each of these is not a bad idea.  I just ordered a replacement exhaust elbor from Torrenson in case the one there turns out to be crap.

producing enough volume of sea water to cool down engine. Is engine

This past Sunday, the engine was running hot and eventually the temp alarm
atarted sounding. I shut her down and waited to open the engine hatch.

I noticed a little bit of water seeping out from under the forward engine
compartment hatch, and when I looked, I could not identify where it came
from.

I troubleshooted from the raw water inlet to the water pump - all is fine.
Should my next step be to look at the mixing elbow? I've read that deposits
can build up, leading to less flow and ultimatley overheating.

I'm worried because thw elbow is covered in heavy duty Al foil, presumably
because the previous owner found or assumed a leak...I'm scared as to what I
might find!

Any thoughts/tips/ideas?
