Yes but you need to make sure that the transmission is rated for continuous duty in reverse.  Often transmissions are designed with much thinner gears in reverse since they get so much less relative use.

This is probably a very dumb question but I was
wondering if the prop was replaced with one with
exactly the opposite blade pitch and angle could the
boat be driven by just using reverse to go forward and
forward to back down. In theory I'm trying to change
