Depends on the condition of the finish. If it is scratched and gouged
through to the wood and the wood has become water stained, yes. Strip the
finish, bleach out the water stains with oxalic acid and sunlight (Zud or
Barkeepers' Friend will do the job), sand smooth, seal with thinned finish
and lightly sand off the burred fibers, then put on at least half a dozen
coats following the manufacturers directions. If it is just scratched a
looking a bit rough...lightly sand, feathering the edges of the gouges...
care should be taken at the corners not to sand through the finish, then put
on a couple of coats
