I have had lazy day out by myself and found sailing with jib only to be faster.? But if your are going to tack up wind and have guess on the bow I can see using the mainsail.?? JOHN Holokai 2

I've tried it both ways and think I get better performance with the foresail
alone than main alone.? Granted, it's a bit more trouble tacking the foresail
than the main, but performaonce is a bit better I believe.? I sailed in the
Comberland Sound Sunday in gusts >20 kts with the foresail and was plesasd.

We were out yesterday on LI Sound with some pretty goods winds (steady 20,
gusts 27+), just sailing around.? I used full main only (probably would have
been better with reefed main) instead of jib, as sunbathers were out on the
bow.? Assuming no folks up on the bow, and maybe single-handing, what do
folks prefer when the "one sail only feeling" strikes..main or jib?? I
learned main only, but some have suggested the jib is the better single-sail
choice.....does it matter, structurally, performance, or ease of running the
boat?

thanks for your advice...
