[C320-list] A couple of winterizing tips...

Phil,

I also live in Dallas and keep my boat on Texoma. Apparently we have the
same winterizing guru as I do the same thing to prepare my boat, which we
use all year. I have owned the boat since new and the only problem I have
encountered is the loss of a bilge pump due to the water freezing in the
discharge line after a particularly hard and prolonged freeze. The discharge
line has a check valve in it and will hold water in the line all the way to
the discharge port at the stern and this will easily freeze. The lesson to
me was keep a dry bilge, especially in winter. I suppose all bets are off if
the power fails, but to date that has not coincided with a hard freeze.
Always room for some luck in this game.

Along these lines ----

Those of us who keep our boats in the water all season with low temps
rarely below 28 degrees for short periods should have very different
winterization schedules -- We live in Dallas and while I use the season
change to do annual maintenance, flush the hot water heater, etc I do
not put antifreeze in the lines just open the fresh water system valves
and pump the head, and keep a small heater down below on freeze-protect
cycle.

What do the rest of the warm-water sailors do?

Thanks

Umm, purple vs pink, ethylene glycolol vs methanol...???

Hmmm...and I thought winterizing was swaping out the #45 sunscreen for
#15...and
putting a sweatshirt in the locker <g>
