[C320-list] Normal Performance Limits?

Well time for my two cents.

1. Here in San Diego we have a measured mile. I run the course twice a year
at slack tide. It is 090/270 true along Harbour Island. This means you
make 3 passes and average the result. The B&G knot meter has a program that
does this easily. I suspect that the other units also have this feature.

2. With the auto prop I find that WindWalker gets hull speed (about 7.1 kts)
at +/- 2800 rpm in slack water.

3. I can verify this since in August we motor sailed 21 miles from Coronado
to Mission bay in 3 hours.

4. For the past 9 years I have made our long transits, for example Avalon to
San Diego which is 70 miles at 2800 RPM and no problem at 2800 rpm. I think
others with the Autoprop will back this up. The great feature of the prop
is that is will adjust the props pitch to the amount of power needed. We
seem to use about .5 gal of diesel per hour.

5. The YANMAR manual indicates that you should change the mixing elbow at 6
years. Do So. Keep the old one and have a radiator shop clean it out and
keep as a spare.

6. I you are not near a designated measured mile with a good nautical chart
you can create your own.

Cheers,

These boats also have notoriously inaccurate tach,s, something else to
check.
