So here's the part that always amuses me when it come to folk's perceived fear of gasoline...

•People drive cars all of the time that use gas

•Folks have boats (including may sailboats) that use gas

•Most folks keep cans of gas in their garages for lawn mowers, edgers, etc.

All of that and if you mention having a gas can in a sailboat, people make it sound like its radioactive...

For 2 years I had a boat that was powered by a 9hp 4-stroke engine, I always had a 6gal plastic gas can on the cockpit floor below the tiller attached to the motor...

In 12 years with cuba libre 2 I had a 1gal plastic gas can that I would use for the generator and I always kept it, tightly closed, in the lazarette...other folks I know, keep a 1gal gas can in the anchor well..

I guess the point in all of this is that fear of having a gas can onboard is really unfounded--like anything else, common sense applies but that's about it

It's no more dangerous than having an outboard that would be used for a dinghy

I know...but Orlando, what about the fumes, they will travel to the lowest part of the boat and it will explode!!

If you leave a gas can open and toss it in a locker or in the bilge, yes, that's dangerous...having a generator or outboard and the gas it needs all the while taking care of what you're doing, no danger

Orlando:

I do have the a Honda 2000 but spouse is not comfortable carrying it and the
necessary gasoline along for any distance. I have used it to do battery
charging at the slip, but she doesn't want to travel with it.
