Jon, Which seal did you use? The yanmar or the unlabeled one?

Just completed this project about a month ago. If you have a drip around the
shaft, start with changing the lip seal--it's quite easy to do. The only
challenge I had was finding the right size seal. The Yanmar part is listed
on the web site, but if you go to my photo album you will see that the seal
ordered did not fit. I would suggest you start with the Yanmar part (it has
been suggested that the seal I got was mislabeled). If that does not fit,
contact me and I will send you the cross reference I found for the Johnson
pump rebuild kit.

Basically all you have to do is remove the pump and push the old seal out
with a small screwdriver (remember which way it goes in), grease the new one
and slide it back in. No need to use a vice or even apply much pressure.
Check the shaft to see if it is scored at all--if so, just take some emory
or 600 grit sand paper and carefully smooth out the shaft where it comes in
contact with the seal. That's it--takes about 20 minutes including removing
and reinstalling the impeller--Let me know if you have any questions...

Anyone ever rebuild the raw water pump on a yanmar?
