[C320-list] Raw water pump

Mine is a 1999 3GM30F euro too. I just called the Johnson pump folks
(847)-671-7867 and they confirmed that their service kit #09-45587 is the
correct kit.

You got it right! I just want to point out that the Yanmar seal (about 6
bucks) in the photo on the web site did fit on Jeff Hare's boat--that's why
I mentioned the possibility that the one I got may have been mislabeled.
Jeff asked me to take a photo of the two to post on the site so we can
potentially get to the bottom of the confusion. What I found odd is that
since the shaft must be the same diameter of the Yanmar impeller, it makes
no sense that there would be different size seals (the seal fits around the
same shaft)...all I know is after a bit of frustration I came to the same
conclusion you did!
BTW--I have a '99 Yanmar 3GM30F euro engine....

Thanks Jon. Here is what I've discovered today. Johnson Pump Type F4B-903,
Part No. 10-24509-01 is "Customer Branded" to Yanmar. The Johnson service
kit you refer to is the Johnson service kit # 09-45587. It sells for $34.
Or, you can order the same darn thing from Yanmar part # K28670-4201 for
$106.69. That's a lot of cash for a Yanmar plastic wrapper!

Bryan,

I used the unlabeled one--it came with service kit. It is F4B-45587. The kit
was $34 and included two seals, a rubber O-Ring and impeller...

Jon, Which seal did you use? The yanmar or the unlabeled one?

Just completed this project about a month ago. If you have a drip around the
shaft, start with changing the lip seal--it's quite easy to do. The only
challenge I had was finding the right size seal. The Yanmar part is listed
on the web site, but if you go to my photo album you will see that the seal
ordered did not fit. I would suggest you start with the Yanmar part (it has
been suggested that the seal I got was mislabeled). If that does not fit,
contact me and I will send you the cross reference I found for the Johnson
pump rebuild kit.

Basically all you have to do is remove the pump and push the old seal out
with a small screwdriver (remember which way it goes in), grease the new one
and slide it back in. No need to use a vice or even apply much pressure.
Check the shaft to see if it is scored at all--if so, just take some emory
or 600 grit sand paper and carefully smooth out the shaft where it comes in
contact with the seal. That's it--takes about 20 minutes including removing
and reinstalling the impeller--Let me know if you have any questions...

Anyone ever rebuild the raw water pump on a yanmar?
