[C320-list] Changing seawater pump impeller - how much water?

Decided to have a go at changing the impeller on the seawater pump for the
cooling system on my Yanmar 3YM30 over the weekend.

 

Loosened off the screws on the cover plate with a bowl underneath to catch
the water.   But the water just kept coming, seemingly from the outflow side
of the pump (yes, I did have the inlet seawater cock off -checked about 3
times!)

So my question is, does anyone know how much seawater the heat exchange
holds or is there something else I'm missing.   It seemed like there was in
excess of 8-9 litres (quarts) in there and that's when I gave up and put it
back together again, as it didn't seem to be showing any signs of abating.
