[C320-list] 3 Blade Prop needed

Medical procedure is cool. Got a great cane with flames on it. Murmuring
heart and prostrate--well who knows.

I don't believe that I have ever written that I am against folding or
feathering props. My point of view has always been that for my weather and
sailing this isn't a key expense item for me. Money for me is tight and
tighter these days and for the $2000 for the prop and the installation is
not within my budget.

What I do object to is this feeling on this list that for some reason
everyone must have a folding/feathering prop and if they don't they can't
sail a lot of distance. In the last three years KELE was sailed nearly 180
times (that's half a year folks) for approximately 3500 miles. There are
probably only 20 or so people on this list who can top that.

I don't tell everyone on the list that if they use a different style of chef
knife on the boat or cut an onion differently than me that they are wrong.
I certainly don't feel that one day they may even come around to believing
that my knife and my cutting technique are right and they were just
obstinate fools.

Now, don't get me wrong, if you want to buy me a prop as a recovery present
and have it installed on KELE I would be honored to send you a wonderful
thank you card. But, unless that happens I will rely on Gerry Douglas'
comments to me two years ago at Strictly Sail. He said once the wind is
over 15 knots the folding or feathering prop has no effect on a 320.

Adam

I rarely disagree with Orlando's sage advice, but if you're going to upgrade
your prop, a 3-blade feathering is the way to go unless you are doing more
racing than cruising. You will get much better control of the
boat--especially in reverse and is well worth it.

I had a two blade martec folding on my last Catalina, but that was for
racing. I am in a slip and reverse was always an adventure. I happen to have
an Autoprop on my 320 and do love it, but they are very pricey. I think many
on this list have been very happy with alternatives such as the Kiwi--

Adam, I know this is one of your favorite all time threads and one day you
may even come around to believing that the prop is actually directly related
to sailing and the sailing experience :) Sorry, I just couldn't resist--Hope
your medical procedure went well and you are on your way to successful
recovery!!

Same question here (44 hulls before you!).
Should I go two or three blades for mostly lake cruising with minor racing
inclination?

Has anyone fitted a Gori 2blade folding prop?
Am interested in performance in reverse.
I have a C320 Mk2.with a 3 blade fixed.
Thanks David.Solitaire #1162.
