John,

On my 3GM30, the transmission oil level (also called the clutch lube) is
checked by inserting the dipstick "fully" (but NOT screwed down) and the
level should be between the scribed mark and the bottom of the dipstick.
In my manual, this is found in section 3.2.3

Cheers,
Karl

I just (almost) completed my first time oil change on my 320 and have a
question on the transmission oil level.

I have a Yanmar 3YM30 engine. My manual says make sure oil level is not too
high or too low.

Dumb Question: How do I read the transmission dip stick?

It is rigid, roughly 6" long and I only can see one line scribed on it,
looks to be about 3/4" from bottom of the rod.

Is that the "full" "or "low" line? I am guessing that is the full line and
the bottom of the rod is the low line, but don't like to guess on expensive
topics..

Filling to that line only fills the transmission about 20% full, but I
assume the gears are bathed in what is there.

What happens if I am over it?

Thanks!

John
