Yes you need a hardener, and either a release agent or cover with plastic, gelcoat will not harden if exposed to air. I rented, some time ago a video from then Boats US that showed me how to do repairs. There is a process to repairing gelcoat, cleaning, taping , using a hardener, spraying with a release agent, sanding with several grades of paper, compounding, and waxing. If you do it properly you will not be able to see it, if you just apply gelcoat, won't work.

I received a small can of gel coat from the factory.......I have very tiny chips in my non-skid ( smaller than 1/8th inch diameter). No directions came with the can.....do I need a hardener or catalist or can I just use a toothpick to fill in the small ding? thanks for the expertise out there!

These things are cheap and work well. I put one inside my mailbox and it waits patiently to come on when I reach in for mail. Might be great in lazerets etc. I wish they had an outdoor version for the cockpit
