West Marine has an LED light on a short post that you can mount on the stern rail, comes on at night automatically.
49 ~, watch for it to go on sale for 29.

These things are cheap and work well. I put one inside my mailbox and it waits patiently to come on when I reach in for mail. Might be great in lazerets etc. I wish they had an outdoor version for the cockpit
