[C320-list] Engineering Degrees

Pursuant to your request, I have a chemical engineering degree and LOL at 
some of the posts.  However, I try not to judge but to help.  Port is left 
and starboard is right, right?  Pi is approximatley 3.1416.

One minor non-technical item for posters is to identify their hull no. so 
those who try to help have some idea of the vintage of the boat.

I want to see one posting here that does make any reference to anyone
having an EE, MSEE, PhD or any other type of engineering degree...folks
always make mentions like that as if that's the last word on any
subject....

The AGM's and gel cell are fairly close in material make up...both are
considered 'acid starved',  in a gel cell the electrolyte has the
consistency and appearance of petroleum jelly. In AGM, the electrolyte is
trapped in a sponge-like matted fiber separator material--If you open the
cells in AGM you introduce oxygen into the battery and it would 'poison'
the battery--your RPE with the Master's in EE should bone up on battery
technology before he says that you should open AGM battery cells and add
water

The AGM batteries are FANTASTIC, but expensive---if you are maintenance
challenged, the AGM choice is for you--however, if you are wanting the
best value for your $$$ and will take care of the batteries, then the
flooded cells are the answer. Incidently, the "maintenance free"
batteries really are not!! To get the maximum life--you will need to
'open' the cells and add distilled water.---Just ask any Registered
Professional Engineer with a master's in EE.

I paid $170 each (through my yard) for two Penn 4D wet cells. I was
leaning toward two Lifeline AGM's, albeit at twice the price but the local
'Batteries Plus' distributor never got back to me. Then, I figured I'd go
with wet cells and save buying AGM's for 'the last boat we'll ever buy'.
