[C320-list] Winch De-Greaser

I thought liquid paraffin the same as lamp oil. Anyway, that's what I use.
The first time I did it I had to scrape off the hardened grease with tools.
After a bath in the lamp oil, clean as a whistle.

You can get the Lewmar instructions on their web site. Just don't out grease
on the pawls and pawl springs, just light machine oil. Grease only goes on
the gears.

These Lewmar wenches are wonderful machines. Heavy duty and reliable. If you
don't clean and grease them for years, they will perform (less in salt
environment.) So well designed and fabricated, they can be disassembled and
reassembled with Just a screw driver. I wish our Detroit machines were as
well made.

The Lewmar winch service manual recommends a paraffin bath (or white
spirit). Mineral oil is liquid paraffin which is what I have used with
success for years. I pour the mineral oil into a plastic bucket and use an
old tooth brush to clean the soaking parts.

I use 115/145 avgas. It really cuts the grease and evaporates quickly.
The only problem it is hard find.
