The "no parts needed" is not always accurate..at a minimum, I replace my springs every time I grease the winches--I always do them on a Sunday, listening to a spring training Dodger game--mine are due in the next two weeks...

On my previous boat I did not service the winches for about four years.
Several froze up and it cost me, 20 years ago, over a grand to have them
fixed by a boat yard.

Cleaning and greasing is enough. No parts needed.

I have to confess I've been lazy and never serviced the winches. I should.

Do folks typically need to replace parts (and thus buy the part kits in
advance), or is it usually a just clean-and-lube process?

Thanks.
