Scott you should also consider Worton Creek, often when heading south we
sail to the Magothy (which we love) in a day.

Thanks to all for the info on Swan Creek.  This is probably the nearest
Eastern Shore anchorage to our home base on the Magothy.  The last few years
we've sailed up the Chester instead, usually ending in Langford Creek.
(Entering Langford Creek in the dark is interesting as there are no lighted
markers.)  But that is a long sail if you only have one night on board and
get a late start, which seems to be the norm for us.  I will definitely try
Swan Creek again this summer.
