On my C&C,  the hatch was leaking, so I simply had made a piece sunbrella to
fit over it.  I had clingles put in each corner and I hold it down with
bungee cords.

I know not a long term fix, but has worked for me now more than 10 years.

Subject: [C320-list] Question on Sliding Comanionway Hatch

Has anyone replaced their companionway sliding hatch?  I have hull #401 and
it's smoked plexiglass slider has failed and needs replaced.  I worked with
Catalina for a replacement.  Catalina confirmed that they had the mold and
made one for me. (new style made of fiberglass with installed window)  The
problem is that they molded a protruding rib on the entire perimeter of the
underside of the slider and this rib catches on the support track that the
hatch rest and slides on. (my support track is not continuous, it catches on
the aft track as you pull it back from the complete open position)  Or as
you initially push the hatch forward as you are installing it from the
cockpit, the sliding hatch drops and locks into the closed position and then
does not allow the hatch to be pushed forward into the open position.
Either way, the under side rib is causing the hatch to "drop and lock" in
the closed position.

I checked another 320 on our dock, hull number 808 and this newer style
sliding hatch does not have the rib on the underside of the sliding hatch.
It has a smooth and totally flat bottom similar to what our old plexiglass
slider had.

Has anyone bumped into this issue?  Does anyone have any advise other than
to return the newly made slider back to Catalina and have a local source
remake the hatch with plexiglass?

Can anyone tell me, if you have the newer style slider, what keeps your
sliding hatch from being pulled too far aft?  My old plexiglass slider has a
plastic "stop bar" screwed to the underside of the hatch to keep the hatch
from extending too far aft.  The new slider that Catalina send me has no
such stop mechanism.

thanks
