Hello,

  a) The cracks along this joint are likely gelcoat only. Our 2001 has some
of those. Gerry Douglas indicated this is only cosmetic and that this joint
is extremely solid at the fiberglass level.

  b) The cracks on the transom are typically where the boarding ladder feet
presses against the hull. Again, this is cosmetic and using the boarding
ladder while it's on stands is typically how this happens. (That said, we
use our boarding ladder when the boat's on stands all the time.)

  c) The galley storage box: We've considered removing the stock box and
adding a slightly larger one as galley storage is always at a premium with a
family of 4 on long trips. While I could measure it for you, it is roughly
14" deep and just about the same width as the door in the galley. We
considered (still are) shifting the shore power charger down lower, Adding
a larger teak door (or double door) and widening the storage box. We put a
big lazy-susan in ours and keep all the misc. spices/sugar, tea/coffee, etc
in there but it could be more useful if larger.

  d) As everyone suggests, a survey is a good idea and probably necessary
for loan/insurance anyway. Other than the Engine, rigging, keel/rudder
damage, it's pretty unlikely that they'll find anything significant. But
they may, as others have suggested, find things you'll want to know/attend
to like electrical system "improvements", thru-hull hose chafing, shaft
seal, etc.

Good luck, and we'd love to have you join the fold.

-Jeff

Hello everyone,

I just got back from Chicago, after having taken a look at very nice 2004
320.

As far as the overall design, layout, systems, and amenities, I was very
impressed with the 320... Would I like a little bigger head and more
storage, sure but every boat is a compromise. If they sail as well as
everyone says, well I can see why everyone seems to really like this boat.
Its practical and smart.

Here are my questions to the group.....

Stern had two areas were I had a bit of concern.

a.. Where the hull met the stern there were gelcoat cracks along what
would be the joint. This was conveyed to me as "normal" given the way it
was built. Is this true?
b.. Also on the stern, on the vertical part below the scoop an area
between the two "vents" had some gelcoat crazing. Is this normal?
Owner removed the galley "storage area" aft of the icebox/fridge. Anyone
know how deep that is? Think it was removed for storage considerations as
all the "stuff" was in the locker.

Owner installed an anchor washdown that was run from the waste through hull.
Basically using the through hull for overboard discharge as a way to pick up
seawater for anchor wash. Anyone else have or know of this modification?

Final question, and its theoretical and something I would likely not do but
I have to ask the current owners...
But said that the boat has been in production for so long , that a survey
may not really be necessary. Would any of you take the boat just based on a
visual knowing what you know about the boat now?

Thanks and look forward to discourse on any of the questions above......
