Other than when on a close haul, the original sail height design, causes the
bottom of sail to be restricted from good shape, by the life lines. When
buying new sail, I am thinking about tapering the bottom of the sail up,
from the attachment to the bow of the boat, so that the life lines will not
be so restricting on its shape?

 

Two Questions---  You will obviously be losing some sail area by tapering
the bottom of the sail.  How might that affect the performance speed of the
boat? Does the better shape offset the power loss?
