Jane & Ken, I do casual club and single handed racing on SF bay. I always
struggled with the decision of what jib to use. Over 15K use 100% or under
15K use the 150%, and usually I misjudged the wind. I did not like to reef
by myself if wind came up while I had the 150 up. So, I got the Forespar
costal which had just come on the market. Now I can always carry the 150
and have unlimited ability to reef and always maintain a flat depowered
main. And going downwind I hoist the main back up. Coming back into my
harbor it is also nice to roll the main in to the boom in the last 100 yards
from to my dock, like the head sail rolls up, but it does take a little more
effort. I had to buy a new main to fit the new system, but kept it the same
size, and I too use a bimini with the boom just couple of inches above it.
About 6' 4" above the floor. After 4 years the main still looks new
because the full length battens and the fact that I continually reduce sail
before it gets damaged as the wind increases. The only disadvantage is the
main is a little flat for real light winds [but the 150 makes up for that]
and the price. Good luck, Paul, Sobrante 850
