Did you go to one of the old neighborhood hardware stores.  They always seem to have a couple of trays of O rings, you might be able to find something close. The only other thought is automotive parts suppliers.

There is a black neoprene washer (not an O ring) inside the valve on my aluminum propane tank. It is worn and slightly split. I have not been able to find a replacement in hardware, propane, RV or boat stores in my area. Has anyone had to replace this washer and if yes can you suggest a supplier.
