[C320-list] Sink thru-hulls

I haven't tried this on the boat but you can get rubber packers that fit on the end of a garden hose. When you turn on the water, the packers inflate blocking the drain pipe and directing a very high pressure water stream through the drain. These come in different sizes, cost about $10 at Lowes/Home depot, and have saved me hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars on plumbing bills over the past 25 years. I use them several times a year to unplug my main drain through the basement floor drain.

Someone on the list asked that I report back on two projects I have just
completed. Replacing the roller furling drum and unclogging the galley and head
sinks. First on the roller furling drum, my thanks to Robert Tiernay for
pointing me in the right direction, Robert you were right on! The job was a
little intimidating, but actually turned out to be easier that I imagined. This
job took about two hours, mostly on my own, but I must warn that at the end any
one doing this will need a second person. The foils droop badly and the weight
makes it impossible for one person to complete. The results, fantastic! I don't
believe my roller furling worked this well when new. I did leave the backstay
cotter pins out so that I can tune the rig when on the water. After what I have
been experiencing with my furling the last few years I really can't wait to use
it in an actual sail, but it rolls so easily now I know it will be great.
Second job, the sinks. Real easy. Took a hose with a nozzle and sprayed dow the
drains, the head sink immediately cleared it actually sucks the water down the
drain. The galley sinks were more difficult , I flushed them many times but did
not get the same results as the head. Finally I went under the boat, still on
land, and shot the water stream up the thru-hull, after that the galley sinks
drained great. I believe this is the solution. Final job, not completed is
replacing the cockpit speakers, thought it would be a drop in because the
replacement are the same overall size but larger in the back than the originals.
I have to modify the openings which has not been easy. End of report,

Try blowing thru a stiff rubber hose that fits over the drain opening just
enough that it forms somewhat of a seal. A piece of rubber hose about a foot or
a foot and a half might do the trick. I unclogged our galley drain by doing
this. position a drain stopper in one of the drains, run water into the sink so
that you have standing water, apply the hose over the unstopped drain and blow
as hard as you can. This may push out any build up or obstructions limiting the
flow of water.

My boat has yet to launch this year, but I would like to resolve one last
problem before it does. I'm sure I can count on the list as usual with the best
solution. Both my galley and head sinks are very slow draining, not sure whether
to attack this from the top or bottom and how best to fix.
Thanks,
