[C320-list] Port gasket replacement questions--

Chris,

Thanks so much for the tips. A couple of additional questions. Did you also
replace the gaskets? If so did you do this before or after the frame. Also,
it sounds like you caulked the horizontal gap after putting the frame in?
Thanks again for the info.

I've done this exact same project trying to fix leaks. In the end, I think
that I could have solved the whole problem by re-caulking the horizontal
gap.

The original bedding was a putty type tape. It takes some work to remove
all of it. The hatch tape works very well. As you put then back in, if
you've got someone on the outside of the boat to hold the frame centered and
in place it makes things much easier. After you secure the port you can
trim away the extra hatch tape with a razor knife and caulk the gap. I've
found that this caulk has shrunken in the year since I did all this and more
needs to be added now.

When you remove all the screws that attach the inner frame to the outer
frame, pay attention to which ones go where. On mine, there were two
different lengths.

I plan on rebedding my opening ports and I have some questions for those who
have taken on this project:

. I plan on using the Bomar Hatch tape in lieu of bedding compound.
Any tips on removing the old hatches and old bedding which appears to be a
clay like tape?

. Is it better to remove the ports and then replace the gaskets-I'm
doing both

. I have the old style ports with the horizontal 'gap'. I understand
from reading prior posts that this area will still need silicone.

Any other tips and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Regards,
