[C320-list] Geriatric Sailing

But we go pretty fast. One Saturday last May, we were going up the Lake doing
8.99 kts according to our trusty Raymarine. Of course the wind was even
faster. Coming back down the lake, we did almost as well. No tacking was
needed. That was our best day of sailing so far this year and it was fun!
And, yes, we are more likely to put the sail out on a short trip. What fun!

Barb, we got the in mast furler for the same reason. No need to fight Sir
Isaac Newton. We may not be as fast as others, but are way more likely to
put the sail out on a short trip than we would be otherwise.
We just came back from 11 days in the BVIs on a gorgeous 47 foot (air
conditioned) catamaran. Every time we raised sail (took two-three men) I
appreciated my in mast furler more.
Happy Sailing!

Are we bragging about age and still sailing?
Three and a half years ago, at Burnt Store Marina, we were talking to an
older
man, but a new C-350 owner, about his in-mast furling. Would he recommend
it to
others? He looked at Bob and asked if Bob still wanted to be sailing at
95. Of
course Bob said yes. The man said we definitely needed to be looking at the
in-mast furling. Geriatric sailing!!! Bob was 81 at the time. About two
months later we bought a new 320 with in-mast and vertical battens. We
absolutely love it!!
BTW, Bob is in fantastic physical/mental condition and can run circles
around me
altho I am quite a bit younger. In June he went from working full time to
part
time.

Yeah, well I'm 70 and except for the blasted heat and family duties love to
sail. Also do all regular maintenance. We have one guy in our marina who
is early 80s and he and his wife sail often and go on their own. He is my
hero. I'll be happy and proud to still be sailing at 80, and to Hell with
the pain. Fortunately, I don't have many to complain about.
Keep sailing.
Life is better on a sailboat.
