[C320-list] eliminating odor

On our hull #219, OBUOY, I first did the 'wash down' as Fred mentioned and that helped along with tightening the fittings on the tank (they did leak) ---but the best thing we did was to purchase a mini-dehumidifier, drilled an overflow hole in the plastic tank, placed the unit in the galley sink and keep the closet door open when we are gone.  Could not believe the amount of water pulled out of the air.  Eight years later and things are still okay--wish I had done the project eight years earlier.
WINDCHASER mini-dehumidifier, one quart collection tank, Marina Del Rey, CA. 800-405-2943.

We've had the same problem and I have started to address it with a good amount of success... I'm not done yet, though.

Here's what I did:

1) replaced the line from the head going to the waste tank. The cloth covered hoses seem to absorb and then transmit odor.
(some improvement but still a problem for the closet)

2) Took out the tank and each fitting and re-teflon taped them with the pink tape (I think it's thicker than the white stuff.)

3) Replace the line from the bottom of the tank to the macerator.

4) Mixed bleach, detergent and water and washed down the area under the tank (not a pleasant task). I suspect there was "leakage" going on under the tank.

The next time we opened the boat (about a week later) my wife said "no odor".

I plan to replace the the discharge hose going to the deck and the vent hose and add a charcoal filter to the vent hose....maybe after pulling the boat for the season.

Hope this helps.

Fred
