[C320-list] eliminating odor

Take care that you don't accidently activate the macerator pump at the
panel. On our #62 the macerator switch is immediately above that for the
fresh water pump. Should the macerator pump be started with the thru-hull
closed the pressure could cause stuff to leak from loose hose connections
between the pump and thru-hull.

I think I'm going to disconnect one wire from the back of the switch and tie
it off.

On hull 894 (2002) this year we had a slight head odor in the bilge and the
battery/holding tank area which on this model is under the starboard seats
in the cabin. We had no odor in previous years.

I basically tightened all the clamps on the hoses attached to the holding
tank and the macerator pump which we don't us in Lake Michigan and the thru
hull attached to the pump. Some of the clamps were slightly loose but none
leaked any liquid. The tank fittings were all tight except for the dealer
installed holding tank high level sensor. That fitting was slightly loose
and was rewound with Teflon tape and reinstalled.

Washed down the area around the holding tank which was fairly clean, but
mostly dust collected over 9 seasons.

Two weeks have passed and no odor.

We've had the same problem and I have started to address it with a good
amount of success... I'm not done yet, though.

Here's what I did:

1) replaced the line from the head going to the waste tank. The cloth
covered hoses seem to absorb and then transmit odor.
(some improvement but still a problem for the closet)

2) Took out the tank and each fitting and re-teflon taped them with the pink

tape (I think it's thicker than the white stuff.)

3) Replace the line from the bottom of the tank to the macerator.

4) Mixed bleach, detergent and water and washed down the area under the tank

(not a pleasant task). I suspect there was "leakage" going on under the
tank.

The next time we opened the boat (about a week later) my wife said "no
odor".

I plan to replace the the discharge hose going to the deck and the vent hose

and add a charcoal filter to the vent hose....maybe after pulling the boat
for the season.

Hope this helps.
