[C320-list] Temperture Sender - 3GM30F - Test Procedures Fuel Gage / Temp Gage

Chris / Joe / List - Attached are test procedures for both the fuel and
temperature gages for C-320's with Seaward engine control panels.

These allow you to hopefully identify if the issue is the sender, gage,
wire, etc. These are probably obvious to those of you who know about
such things electrical, but for the rest of us may be quite helpful.
They require that you remove the panel face (six screws) to access the
back of the gages and wiring harness, remove wires, etc. but nothing too
difficult.

Chris Burti is going to try to expand with an article.

These procedures came from Seaward Products who manufacture some (all?)
of the engine control panel on Catalina's. Seaward's panel guy is
Dennis and he can be reached at 562-699-7997 extension 210 or via e-mail
at dennisi at seawardproducts.com He's very helpful.

Seaward can supply new gages. On my boat (1999 hull #614 with a yanmar
3gm30f) the temperature gage is model #84590F. The gage was originally
made by Teleflex, but is now manufactured by 'V-3' and Seaward can
supply them for about $46 plus shipping if yours goes bad. Dennis
thought they might be available through Mack Boring as well.

Temperature sending units can generally be gotten at marine parts
suppliers - in the Annapolis area one source is Bayshore Marine
(410-263-8370) but you will need the spec. which for the 3GM30F with a
Seaward panel is "Stewart Warner, 240 to 33 Ohms Resistance" - I think
this is consistent for all late model C320's.

My issue, gasp, appears to be the wire - so I'll be hatch diving in the
lazarette shortly......

Hope this is helpful.

Jamie,

Please send me the Seaward test procedures. Thank you.
