Hi Max. 

This is supposed to be telling you that the supply voltage is low.  There's no internal battery. 

this could be happening because of:
1) a loose, corroded or overloaded ground
2) Ditto for the + supply
3) Bad motor or connections to it. (The connector is very likely the culprit as shorts are easy to occur in this connector )

If it stays on without problems when idle but starts acting up when it starts steering then suspect one of the above.

Can someone explain why my autohelm says low battery but still works  
for about 3 minutes prior to the alarm?
