30w for the engine is fine as long as it is rated for diesel engines and
not gas engines. Oil not rated for diesels should never be used in any
diesel engine.

When I first purchase my boat #606 I attended a very good diesel class.
The told me 30w in both the engine and the transmission, ten seasons, no
problems.

My Yanmar guru says diesel 15w40 in the engine and straight 30w in the
transmission. Been working fine for a number of years.

I have a 97 3GM30 Yanmar. I'm looking for the specific brand and type
lube oil used in the transmission. Is it the same as the oil used in
the engine or is it a different viscosity/type?

thanks
