[C320-list] Booms - Birds Nesting

We found a good solution was stuffing a plastic grocery bag into the end of
the boom. I would have used steel wool or aluminum foil but was concerned
about corrosion between metals. The plastic bag is protected and lasts 3-4
years. Birds won't touch it!

Jerry,

Three of us (Catalinas) at the Club have had problems with our booms this
week with birds (Swallows) nesting. Last time this happened, my blocks got
tangles with nesting materials and it was very difficult removing and
repairing the lines and blocks inside. So plug the end of your boom! You
would think someone would come up with an after-marker rubber or plastic
plug specifically for this purpose.

Thanks guys - very helpful. The sliding blocks in the boom seem to be
jammed together around the outhaul block looking down the boom with the end
cap removed. Since the system has never worked properly from new I think
that their has been a commissioning problem rather than a design fault.
Back to the dealer to sort it out.
