Jim,
Where was the boat on Lake Ontario? We have sailed there for 15 years and I
might know the boat. Thanks.

I was going to the next time I get there. I wonder if some of the coliform
bacteria seep back into the inlet hose with pumping and set up the smell that I
get when first flushed after sitting for a week or 2. Doesn't seem to be the
water in my case. Boat was on Lake Ontario for 4 years and had the same odor
with fresh water, the Neuse in Oriental NC is certainly brackish and a little
salty and supports salt water fish and shellfish.

Try that with Ocean water. Your neighbors will be running for the hills when
you open one of those. ;)

I light of the discussion on head odors, which my boat has, I decided to do a
little experiment. I took clean liter bottles and filled them with the Neuse
River water mentioned by Chris Burti. In one I squeezed out all the air
(anerobic bottle), in another I left a little air, and in the third I left a lot
of air. Put them in a black garbage bag and left them outdoors in the shade
(temps over 90 like the inside of my boat!). After 4 weeks no odor in any of
them. Results may bolster the Burti theory of fresh water vs brackish water not
making a difference. Bottles recapped and will check next month.

Yes
Dry boat - big storm - water on sole under Lewmar hatch in salon - rebed
with Bomar foam tape - no more leaky.
