Jim,  I agree with Dick--do it once and, and, and it is still dry--mine has been installed for five years.  OBUOY  #219  Ken   p.s. no tightening ever so often to slow drips.

Jim you should check into the PYI dripless shaft seal.  It is the best long
term solution.  WindWalker II has been equipped for 11 years.  No water in
the bilge.

I've seen several unfavorable comments over the years, mostly having to do
with issues in removing it to replace the stuff.

You can get the Gore material at any good industrial supply...at half the
price of marine stores....they use it in industry for valve packing.
