[C320-list] Hurricane Prep

The eye of Irene is forecast to pass about 50 miles or less to our east
(landfall will be near Ft. Macon and Cape Lookout) at around 8 AM tomorrow.
So we expect to see 12-15" of rain and sustained winds around 90 MPH with
gusts over 100 MPH.
We are in a "hurricane-hole" with an excellent record and terrific staff,
but water levels in the marina are expected to rise by 7-9 feet.
We have prepared the boat by taking off the sails, dodger, bimini and
doubling up on all the lines as well as running additional lines across
the fairways.
The entire marina looks like a spiderweb. Obviously, we've been working on
this for the past several days.
They are very well organized (even pull all the electric meters to avoid
salt water intrusion) and will tend the boats all night adjusting lines.

As far as the house goes, our main effort is to put everything away that
might blow around. Our main concern is roof damage and broken windows from
flying debris.
At some point, we expect to lose power. Hopefully, it will be restored
quickly (ie. unit of measure is hours, not days).

As a volunteer fireman, I expect it will be a busy time tonight and
tomorrow. For safety reasons, we won't respond to calls until wind speeds
drop below 50 MPH.

Our best to all members up the coast....

Karl and Elaine Mielenhausen
