[C320-list] ST4000

I've had both problems with our ST4000 wheel. I fixed the broken roller as
indicated previously. It has functioned well for the past 2-3 years.

I also had a problem with the broken pin in the clutch handle. I didn't
discover this in time and the "D" shape of the opening in the handle became
rounded out. I managed to source SS roll pins from the mfgr in NJ after
finding that steel pins, cotter pins and else wouldn't hold. Without the "D"
shape in the handle to share the load, the various pins couldn't either.

The final solution was to use a galvanized steel hitch pin that I found at
an ACE hardware store. I had to drill out the holes in the handle and the
clutch shaft to match the slightly larger diameter of the hitch pin, and
trim the ends of the pin so the handle could rotate fully. This seems to
have been a sufficient repair as it has held for two years. The advantage of
the hitch pin is that I can remove it easily. I also carry a couple of spare
hitch pins just in-case.

I had to buy a quantity of the SS roll pins so I probably have some left
that I'm not using. If anyone wants a couple of these pins, let me know. I'm
happy to send them no charge. (If I can find them.)

Dick - I had a small pin in my ST4000 that broke in two places, creating a
situation just like yours. The pin connected the lever with a cam that
loosened or tightened the belt. Raymarine does not supply the Drive lever
assembly anymore, but a 9 cent pin cured the problem. You can download the
service manual from Raymarine, if that helps.
