Hi,
Did not really do a lot of shopping around, but the total cost for my
replacement pump was $409.00 plus shipping. This included pump, O'Ring and
already installed impeller.
I did order it from TAD in Va. Phone (804)642-9296.
Part number 29450-1701...(Jabsco 100 series pumps)
I am not really handy, but only took me 30 minutes to replace and
install1!!!!

All

Raritan Sea-Era electric toilet is installed and working well. Location
required rotation of the macerator and pump assembly from the back to the
left. The mounting used the left rear hole from the original head base,
with the other 3 holes rotated counterclockwise to keep the front center
bolt on the raised platform.

Thanks all for the information. This forum is the greatest.

Don, I presume you have the 22 gal. holding tank. And, which monitor are
you using? I used the Solo monitor with the dual sensor strips.

I would place the sensor strips where you can reach them while the tank is
installed. We put ours on the forward side where the tank is the tallest
top to bottom. This is close to the battery compartment from where I
powered the monitor. I used an in-line fuse as I never want the monitor
unpowered as you then have to reprogram it. I placed a terminal strip on
the top of the tank for the connections from the battery, sensors, and to
the controller. The controller/display I placed inside the cabinet in the
head. I did this so it would be out of the way of small curious hands that
are occasionally onboard.

As for programming the controller for the tank shape, good luck. I
couldn't
seem to find the best setting for this tank. I think it is now set for a
square tank. This means that it reaches 1/2 full rather quickly, then
takes
longer to reach 3/4 and full because the greater part of the volume is at
the upper half. This is not all bad. The Solo monitor turns on a red
"Full" light when the tank is at 80% for 30 minutes. This is a good
indicator that it is time to think about a pump out.

Let us know how your installation turns out.

I am about ready to install external waste tank level sensors. Can I attach
them equidistant on the inboard side? or am I going to have to do some
volume measurements?

Myron, I'm interested in your project as my Perkins is approaching 2,000
hrs
and I will probably need a rebuild of the pump before long.

I've not done this so my advice is anecdotal. It is a Jabsco pump and
parts
are readily available. I've thought I would have mine rebuilt as I've no
idea what's involved in the rebuild: do I have the necessary tools. I've
used a web site www.depcopump.com that has lots of good info about such
pumps. I've thought I would get a rebuild estimate from them. You can
also
get the necessary parts from them.

Removing the pump is probably doable considering that since you're asking
the question you're probably considering doing it yourself. However, refer
to Section X, of the Detroit Diesel manual for instructions on this pump.
It says, "Attention": Do not remove the drive housing of the raw water
pump.
The alignment of this housing has been carefully adjusted with a special
alignment tool." Then it refers to 4 "set screws" that fasten the pump to
the drive housing that you may remove.

As for the serial number, as I remember, it is stamped on a plate attached
to the engine on the stbd side forward somewhere above the high-pressure
fuel pump. I think it records a model and serial number. Mine is: model
KD3024J; Serial: 51554X. If you have trouble locating it, let me know and
I'll verify where mine is located.

Hope this helps.

The raw water pump shaft seal on my 1995 Perkins is dripping. The engine
has
just under 1,000 hours of use.

Is it best to put in a new seal or should I just replace the complete pump?

If replacing the pump, where is a good place to purchase without breaking
the bank?

Is this an easy job to remove and replace or should the boatyard mechanic
do
it?

One company asked me for the serial number of the engine. Where do I find
the SN?

Thanks for your help.

Myron - remove the companionway engine cover and look towards the front on
the top left of the engine. there is a shiny metal plate affixed to the
engine with the S/N info. Alan

I believe Kent and Dani are in CA. In Florida, Warren Pandy is the GM and
Ellie Quinn is parts manager. I've had good and bad experience with CA
parts, and nothing but good with Florida. The latest issue with CA was
resolved quickly after I said I would write a letter to Frank Butler. Make
sure you know whether you are dealing with CA or FL, then contact them
directly and be persistent:

BTW, Walt, where are you on Middle River? We and another 320 are at
Maryland Marina.

Has anyone encountered problems lately in ordering parts from Catalina
in?Florida? I've tried for a month now to order 2 simple parts for my boat.
I've emailed the parts man (Ken at Catalinayachts.com) 3 times with my request
(including part numbers), and I've called 4 times and got an acknowledgment
my emails arrived. But, I can't get a someone to reply and ?process the

I was talking with several long time sailor friends thisweekend and more
than one have had problems with their new cell phones and theST4000. (making
their boats go off course) Even turning them off or placingthem as far
away as possible from the compass didn?t help, they had to keep thephone?s off
the boat. Has anyone else had this problem? I have done everything test
listed on 320 and sailboat owners and Raymarine board (plus grounds wires)
and double check all mysettings. The only test I haven?t done is the
Raymarine compass test! I?ll do that this weekend after I check my cellphone. It
funny that my autopilot problems started the same time I purchased anew
phone. Looks like I might need arudder transducer but I want to have the
basic autopilot working before I hunt onedown. Thanks, John Holokai 2

Warren
Thanks for the info. I will be using a Sensa Tank Marine 100 with the 22
gal tank. It does not have to be programmed. I will measure the tank this
weekend and determine if I should calculate the various volume positions. i
suspect not but I will go through the exercise anyway for anybody who wants
the info in the future. Having had the tank full when I thought it was only
1/4 full brought this project to the top of my list of things to do.

I have received excellent service from Dani in CA, whereas little to none
from the local Catalina Brokerage. I did not buy my boat from them so they
don't seem to want to take care of me. Whatever.

Funny this has come up. My ST4000 just went 200 deg off a couple of weeks
ago. No big deal but it shows me going backwards on the chartplotter. Pilot
works where I point it OK. Haven't reswung the compass yet but I am going
to watch this closely. Wife has a new IPhone. Only a couple of ST4000s
around me but I will ask.

Warren,

Thanks for the information. I did find the serial number this morning
right where you mentioned.

I do most of my maintenance, but was not sure about removing and
installing that gear driven pump. After reading your Detroit Diesel warning, I think
I will have the job done. I really like our Perkins engine and don't want
to mess it up.

I had quote today from Diesel Specialists of $598 for a new pump. I hope I
can find a better price and as someone mentioned earlier, I will check
eBay.

I let you know what I finally decide.

There is a tech note on the RayMarine website about how to correct the
orientation of the boat icon. Mine was pointing sideways at one point. Thought
I was in a Hunter for a minute. They sail sideways as well as they go
forwards, don't they?

Funny this has come up. My ST4000 just went 200 deg off a couple of weeks
ago. No big deal but it shows me going backwards on the chartplotter. Pilot
works where I point it OK. Haven't reswung the compass yet but I am going
to watch this closely. Wife has a new IPhone. Only a couple of ST4000s
around me but I will ask.

All,
Again before trying a rebuild, check ebay for a replacement pump.
On our Yanmar 3GM it was so cheap, it didn't pay to consider a rebuild.
Replace and throw the old one away.

All "new"cell phones are on even when OFF. It is the way to know where you
are and if you are close to a retail location that you may want to spend
money--Yea big brother.

Irv,

My boatyard is also recommending replacement. If they change the seals,
they often find a scored shaft. Then you are in for another expensive part, a
delay while they order and receive the part, and a very big labor bill.
You could easily end up with a rebuilt pump costing nearly the same as new.
To just pull the pump and replace with a new one is a minimal labor charge.

Now I'm on the quest to find a reasonably priced new pump.

If you can I would do both. Order and install a new pump and then order
the
rebuild kit and do the work yourself. If you have a vise and a socket
set
it is not that hard to press out the shaft, berrings and seals. Then
clean
up the inside of the pump the best you can removing any scores, press in
the
new parts with your vice and sockets, oil it all up and put it in a zip
lock
bag as a spare.

let them know that you are following up with an email.? Use a good and
informative topic for the subject line.? I don't have notes in front of
