[C320-list] Oil change on the hard

Bob,

You can't run the engine without seawater cooling the coolant. The internal engine coolant is used to dissipate heat from the internal engine components to the raw water heat exchanger. I would plumb a freshwater reservoir into the raw water intake hose if you are going to run the engine with the boat out of the water. Be careful, because:

1. The raw water circuit may need to be primed for the raw water pump impeller to work.
2. Do not force water into the raw water circuit under pressure (by a hose or high head reservoir) as you may damage the engine by forcing raw cooling water past the heat exchanger and into the combustion chambers.

If it was me, now that the boat is out of the water, I would just change the engine oil without preheating this time.

As you know, it is a good idea to change the engine oil before putting the boat away for the winter though.

Can I remove the raw water pump belt (to protect the impeller) and run the engine (having its' own internal coolant) a few minutes to heat the oil without damaging anything? If not, I'll just provide a reservoir of water for the engine.
