[C320-list] Rust and Marlube

A friend of mine left his open over night because he was coming
back the next day. When he arrived, his boat was on the B O T T O M.

As you say, his insurance paid for it, he was without his boat for one
month. Now that is a PITA.

I agree with your advice but since I'm lazy, I find moving the mattress/bedding to get to my fresh water intake and hvac intake to be a PITA and neglect closing them every time I leave the boat. During the season I'm only away from the boat a maximum of five days at a time. I know that it could sink in five days but I guess that is why I have insurance.

I had an Email from Forespar( which I can't currently lay my hands on) regarding
their Marelon seacocks and they do not recommend any lube at all. They advise
exercising the seacocks at least once every 30 days or so. I have been doing
this and the seacocks continue to work smoothly. Closing seacocks each time you
leave the boat for more than a few days accomplishes this and is a safety
feature should a hose fail. I know a few folks who neglected to open the cooling
water seacock and came to grief as a result, they now keep the engine key stored
on the seacock as a reminder!
