It was a fix things weekend ....
The first was to replace the little switches in the V-berth light fixtures (the round white ones). Both had failed over the winter. Catalina Direct sells an LED replacement fixture for about $20 each. I found a perfect drop in at Mouser Electronics (112-R13-66D). This is the 3 position switch that gives you either red or white illumination. The switches cost less than $2 each. The old switch was soldered in. The new switch can either be re-soldered or wired with 3/16 Faston terminals. The repair took about 30 minutes. I think the switches got zapped ... which leads to the second repair ...
We have had '- - -' in the wind instrument all summer. The direction portion worked OK. I sent the display to Raymarine and they reported 'No Problem Found'. So, it was either wiring or the mast head unit. I didn't want to spend $600+ for a new one, so I looked on Ebay (search for ST60). There I found a replacement circuit board for $49 (with excellent instructions). I went up the mast, brought it down, did the repair (requiring some basic soldering) and put it back up. It took about an hour. Success!
We build things like this here and I am going to replace the Hall Sensor to see if that was the culprit. If so, I'll report back to the list. If it is the sensor, it becomes a $3 repair.
It was the first time for me to go up the mast ... fun (since the wind was under 10kts, it was daylight and the boat was in the slip).
We actually found time to go sailing, too.
