I seem to have gotten wrong what changes as you go from 2 to 3 blades. My
recommendation to call Catalina stands.

Frank-I have hull 894 (2002) and the original prop was a 3 blade 15 X 9.
The engine is a 3GM30F Yanmar with a KM2P transmission and 2.21 gear ratio
in forward. This is pretty much standard for this hull date. With this set
up the engine will max out on RPM with max boat speed. Everything was
properly sized.

The current owner must not have gotten the correct pitch or the prop is
badly fouled. What year/hull boat are you looking at and ehow many engine
hours?

I'm in the process of buying a Catalina 320 and the current owner changed
the prop from the 2 blade 13 inch (measured tip to tip) with a 3 blade 15
inch. During our sea trial while under high RPM the engine was expelling
unused fuel out the exhaust. If we place the transmission in neutral and
rev'd it up there was no fuel expelling. I suspect the prop is the wrong
size. It has the 30F engine. Does anyone know for sure what size 3 blade
prop is correct?
