[C320-list] Anchor roller bail

Here is a way to release a stuck anchor. Have a length of chain, maybe 3',
pull your rode straight up and down, wrap the chain around the rode and
secure ends with a shackle, tie a line to the chain, lower the chain down
the rode and keep a strain on the rode, the chain will follow the rode down
over the shank to the ground. Now you can power fwd pulling the anchor out
of the ground backwards.

Extra chain, shackle, and line... just stuff every boater has hanging
around. No?

The anchor shank has 2 attachment points for the rode shackle. I now use
the long opening that runs the length of the shank. To keep the shackle
from sliding toward the flukes I tied a thin cord around the shank to keep
the shackle at the end. If I can't pull the anchor with the windlass or
power it out with engine, I can pull the rode, in the opposite direction
until the cord breaks and now I am pulling the anchor from over the flukes
instead of from the end. I have never had to do it but I like the option.
I originally bought a 35# with the same idea you had; go bigger than
recommended. I put it on the boat and boy was it big, so I returned it for
a
25#.

We have used it for about 3 seasons without a problem. Held us through a 35
knot blow one night without a problem, course I didn't sleep much worrying.
Mike

Mike, Santa says "no" to me being good-just lucky. What do you mean by the
breakaway cord? Is that a 2nd line to back pull the anchor?
