[C320-list] FW: C 320 Rudder Repair

I haven't done this on a C320, but did on an O'Day 35.
In my case, after drilling the holes and letting it drain,
I had to put epoxy in the holes and screw the rudder
skin tight against the core. Once dry patched the
holes and repainted. More importantly it is necessary
to understand why the rudder may have separated and
got water inside. When boats are left out of the water
and painted with dark bottom paint, it really cooks and
destroys the inside.
When out of the water, rudders need to be covered or
painted white.  My 1999 rudder has always been painted
white.

John,
You can drill some 3/8" holes in the bottom of the rudder to allow it to drain until spring and then patch the holes with epoxy and repaint with bottom paint.

Comments:
As my boat is a 1999 and I haul out every winter I'm concerned that water may have gotten into the rudder, freeze and split. Can I drill small holes someplace in the rudder to drain any water that may have gotten in? So far no sign of water though.
