I can't speak to the disk repair, but I can make some recommendations on the lines.

I got a 50 yard coil of Jinkai 700lb test monofilament leader from TackleDirect.com for about $25 a few years ago. Enough for several more line changes and is UV stable.  It is very smooth and and slippery so I suspect it is easier on the disks than round weed wacker line.  When I tried weed wacker line, the uv made it cloudy, chalky and not smooth after a half season.  I'm on my 3rd season with the leader and it's still fine.
