[C320-list] tri color lite

Mike,
I've never tried it, but since I pull my mast off every winter, I can tell you
what your up against.  At the mast step on deck the wiring splits into 2
separate 7/8" ID PVC chase tubes that run up the inside of the aft end of the
mast.  One tube goes to the lower spreaders to supply the deck light.  The other
tube goes to the near the masthead.  The only way I can think for you to jump
from the compression tube top opening to the chase tube is by using an existing
wire or cable that runs to the masthead.  By using an existing wire as a
messenger, with luck you should be able to reach the masthead.  Obviously this
is not a easy task to do 47' about the water swinging from a chair with very
little leverage.
Good luck.

I'm in the process of installing a tri color light (Lunasea) and need to run
two wires up the mast. The messenger line in the bilge seems to terminate at
the deck.
Has anyone run extra wires to the mast head without removing the mast?

We have 75' of 1/4" Hi Test chain. Not that we use it much. One
consideration might be the depths you typically anchor in and how close
together other boats typically anchor in your area.

It is nicer to have the chain all out and have the rhode to cleat off. It
doesn't bang on the hull when you go slack and drift around.

But we are not even close to being experts in the anchoring area.

It is highly suggested that you get chain no shorter than the length of the
boat. I have 32' on mine but 50' would be better.

To anyone who uses a Maxwell VW500 Windlass: I'm just installing one on my
1993 C320. I know I'm looking for 1/4" High Test Grade 40 or 43 chain, but
how much chain should I be getting? I'm expecting that the chain would lead
to 200 ft. of anchor line. What are your thoughts?

Thanks

John, it depends on where you anchor.  On the mid to northern Chesapeake Bay
where anchoring depths rarely exceed 15 feet in soft to firm mud, I find 12'
of chain is enough.  Where depths are greater and/or bottoms are iffy, the
more the better; but, I think the recommendation of one boat length
reasonable.  The weight of such a chain is significant.

We sail on Lake Ontario (Cdn side) and have 150' of 1/4high tensile chain
and 200' of nylon rode; the windlass has a chain gypsy as well as a rope
drum. Never got down to using the nylon rode but have often used all of the
chain. The anchor is a 15kg Bruce and is attached to the chain with an
anchor swivel which I highly recommend. Makes getting the anchor on board
the boat a lot safer and easier.
